Ardeth Fern Giles Young passed away August 22, 2010, surrounded by her loving children.
She was born April 24, 1924, in Heber City, Wasatch County, UT, to Nina Eldoris Bell and Vincent T Giles. She was the eldest of six children. Mother was proud of her deep Heber Valley roots and loved the view of Timpanogos from her front porch.
She married Arthur B Young on May 29, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. Their union was blessed with six children. Ardeth lost her mother at an early age and many loving aunts stepped in to fill the void until her dad married Lucille Carlile, who took over and became her mother in every way. During those years, she spent many hours in the hay field working alongside her Dad. She remembered fondly her time spent working in the blueprint office at the Navy shipyards in Portland, Oregon, during World War II. She made many friends there and kept them for the rest of her life. Mother was known throughout the valley for her readings and oral presentations. Mom had a lifelong love of books and learning. She eventually became the librarian and “Story Lady” at Central/Heber Valley Elementary. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings throughout her life. Mom dedicated her life to her family and the gospel.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, step-mother, baby brother, John, and grandson, John Christian Harmon. Survived by her children: Deanna (John) Harmon, Layton; Laurel (Brent) Roylance, Hyrum; Arthur Kent (Connie), Provo; Jane (Richard) Spillman, Hyrum; Valerie, Heber; Sharon (James) Brisk, Cedar Hills; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; sisters, Alyce Allred and Barbara Olofson, and brothers, Ivin and Robert Giles.
